Batteries such as a 18650 Li-ion battery and battery packs with protective electronics (PCB) have a higher internal resistance. And, to put it simply, some of the protective electronics can withstand less current than the cell itself. The charging current must also be taken into account here! The appropriate data sheet and technical information must display or specify these parameters, which is why you should study this data carefully.
A special feature: the battery with PCB always has a much greater internal resistance, i.e. H. a fast and high power output is almost impossible here. Many e-vapers can confirm this with the battery of their e-cigarette. This is just one example of why not every cell is suitable for every application. For example, the Panasonic NCR18650BF must not be connected in parallel more than four times. As a rule of thumb you can note the following dependency: "The higher the nominal capacity, the lower the maximum discharge current". The operating temperature during discharge is from -20 to 60 ° C for most cells, but charging the 18650 battery only works from 0 ° C to approx. 50 ° C, charging at room temperature is optimal.
The nominal voltages of a 18650 lithium battery
Many think that a battery with a specified nominal voltage of 3.6 volts must not be replaced with a 3.7 V battery. That is simply wrong! A fully charged 18650 battery has a maximum voltage of 4.2 volts. A higher charging voltage would overcharge the cell, with a lower one of e.g. B. only 4.15 volts, the battery guarantees an extremely long service life. The 18650 Li-Ion battery only reaches around 95% of its nominal capacity, but in most cases this is sufficient. The same applies here: A lower voltage of z. B. 2.8 V extends the service life.
