Difference between DL & MTL Tanks
DL / MTL differencesSome people are sure to ask what the abbreviations "D L" and "MTL" mean on the tank heads of an e-cigarette and what the differences between the pulling techniques are.
different coil types | MTL vs. DL
In this article we would like to answer the questions and shed light on the different types of tank coils so that you can decide for yourself which tank coil with which pulling technique is the best choice for you personally.
To answer one thing in advance: For smokers, MTL tanks are the best choice for switching.
DTL = direct to lung (directly into the lungs)
MTL = mouth to lung (mouth to lung)
The differences are as follows:
DL tanks (lung steamer)
DL Tanks DTL tanks are mostly used in the low sub ohm range, where the resistance is 0.5 ohm and less. Due to the low resistance, a significantly higher performance can be achieved and, in connection with the high liquid flow, extreme amounts of steam can be achieved. Due to the very light draft behavior, these tanks are suitable for direct lung pulls (lung steamers). These models are also called e-hookahs.
direct inhalation into the lungs (without stopping) necessary
also called lung steamer or e-shisha
very easy pulling behavior
Airflow control must allow a lot of air to flow to the tank
significantly larger amounts of steam possible
The volume of the lungs is used for the large amount of steam
It is essential to choose a lower amount of nicotine in the liquid
Liquid consumption 4-10x as high (compared to MTL)
significantly higher battery power is necessary and possible
Battery consumption therefore also 2-5x as high (compared to MTL)
MTL Tanks
Best tanks MTL tanks usually have a resistance of 1.0 - 2.0 ohms. The required performance is within the normal range and the liquid consumption is not excessive. For smokers, MTL tanks are the best choice, which are also known as backend steamer e-cigarettes, as this pulling technique first pulls them into the mouth and then inhales them into the lungs.
It is first drawn into the mouth and then inhaled
similar to smoking a cigarette
it is also called steaming on the cheek
decent migration behavior
Airflow can also let less air flow in
lower amounts of steam as the volume of the oral cavity is used
Significantly lower battery and liquid consumption
Use MTL liquids with a lower VG content

Do I have to decide when I buy?
Many beginners would like to test both types of coils and keep the option of pulling technology open. That's why we also offer a large number of e-cigarette starter sets in the shop, where you can use both types. By using the respective coil heads, you can decide whether you are vaping DL or MTL. Just look for the symbols MTL and DL
What happens if I use the DL baking steam?
A D L tank needs a lot of air passage. If you regulate the airflow and let too little air flow in, the tank can "drown" because too much liquid flows in, which is not evaporated. The result will be that the tank bubbles and splatters. In the case of non-leak-proof tanks, the liquid can also leak out via the airflow (siffen). In addition, a DL Tanks will hardly achieve the desired amount of steam if you pull too short and only use the mouth (cheek) instead of the whole lungs.
What if I inhale the MTL directly?
Pulling an MTL tank directly into the lungs becomes uncomfortable. Since the tank lets in little air, the drag resistance is very high. You will hardly produce steam or suck in too much liquid, which cannot be evaporated due to the low power. A backend steamer e-cigarette wants to be drawn slowly and with pleasure at a lower power (often 10-20 watts) so that there is enough time to vaporize.
